In 2007, Heartland Energy Solutions was established in the heartland of America, in the small farming community of Mount Ayr, Iowa by a team of engineers, experienced managers, businessmen and alternative energy experts to address the future of the renewable energy industry through creative solutions in wind and other technologies. Our first area of concentration has been wind technology.
Early on, we recognized that historically the current generation of wind turbines have performed poorly at the more common, lower wind speed spectrum. We realized that the marketplace was in great need of a more efficient small-scale utility-grade wind turbine. We have successfully designed and built the most efficient wind turbine in the world that performs economically at lower wind speeds.
That turbine, the Freedom™100, is now a reality. It is the first wind turbine designed specifically for lower wind speed Class 2, 3, 4 and 5 applications, from 12.5 to 18 mph wind speeds. Our Freedom™100 turbine currently produces over 30% more energy on a competitive cost basis than any other turbine on the market per our data.
We knew we needed a revolutionary blade. To achieve that goal, we developed and patented a unique computer-aided blade design. Then we built our own state-of-the-art blade plant to ensure that our blade design standards were met. HES is the ONLY turbine manufacturer in the United States to make its own blades.
Blade testing by NREL (National Renewable Energy Lab) has shown that our blade has an estimated product life of over 40 years. This far exceeds any competitor in the market.
The Freedom™100 wind turbine was born out of an innovative spirit whose mantra was “How can we get it done?” We didn’t accept “It can’t be done.” Our engineers were not constrained by conventionally accepted wind turbine design limits. We weren’t just thinking outside of the box – for us … there was no box.
